Have you ever thought about what life would be like if you had been born in a different time period? Do you think you'd like that life more than the one you have now?

According to a new survey, many young adults think they might.

The survey was done by NBC News with over 3,000 US participants aged 18 to 29.

Nearly half of those surveyed said they'd prefer to live in the past, with a third of this group saying they'd like to live less than 50 years in the past, while 14% said they'd like to live further in the past.

Nearly 40% said they'd still choose their life in the present, and a smaller number of participants said they'd choose to live in the future.

So why do so many young people want to live in the past?

Many do not have high hopes for the future — both their personal future and that of their country. About 80% said they think their country is on the wrong track, and 62% said they believe life was better for earlier generations.

Another reason is that some young people think it might have been better to live in a time before technology was such a big part of life.

One survey participant said that he'd like to live in the 1990s, a time with "a lack of phones, more personal experience, but also still some of the ease of modern technology."

Another participant added that there's "so much internet" these days, and it can be difficult to get away from it.
