What Is 'Slow Travel' and Why Should We Do It?
Holidays should be relaxing, right? You would think so!
Holidays should be relaxing, right?
You would think so!
But some holidays can also feel tiring. You can spend so much time seeing and doing things that you don't have time to relax!
But have you heard of "slow travel?"
This is a different way to travel. It means that you take a lot of time to enjoy each place you visit.
You don't try to run to every museum in a city in one day. No — you take your time in that city.
Natalie Gale writes for a website called The Good Trade. She says that slow travel helps us connect better with people and places.
Slow travel means staying in small bed and breakfasts, not big hotels, she says. And you should do things like eat in small restaurants and talk to the owners in small shops.
She also says you should move around less. And when you do move around, move more slowly. That doesn't mean walking slowly — but it means taking trains and buses, not planes.
Or just walk!
But why is it good to try slow travel?
Gale says slow travel lets you explore places that other visitors don't see. It's also less tiring.
Slow travel can also mean that you spend less money. That's because you're not trying to see 100 different places in one holiday!
Gale says we will never see every place in the world. So we should do our best to enjoy every place we do see!
